Sue Cleaver reflects on 20 years playing "crap" Eileen in Coronation Street

Sue Cleaver admits that her Corrie character Eileen Grimshaw is "a great friend, but crap at everything else".

Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver has heaped praise on her character Eileen Grimshaw's qualities but admits that she is "crap" at most things.

The character first appeared on the cobbles 20 years ago to the day yesterday and went on to become a soap staple, with storylines including her rivalry with Gail Platt (Helen Worth) and marriage to serial killer Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre).

"I originally said I'd stay about a year, but the place is so seductive," Cleaver admitted in an interview with The Mirror.

"Everybody knows an Eileen. She's every woman, she's down to earth, level-headed and loyal. She's a great friend, but crap at everything else."

In recent episodes, viewers have seen Eileen start to become suspicious of Geoff's behaviour towards his wife Yasmeen.
