Corrie's Shelley King: 'Yasmeen is a cornered animal'

Shelley King explains Yasmeen's thinking as she finally stands up to Geoff in tonight's Coronation Street.

Coronation Street actress Shelley King has previewed the explosive scenes for her character Yasmeen in tonight's episode of the show.

For the last year Yasmeen has been mentally abused by husband Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) as he has progressively taken control of her life, separating her from friends and family in the process.

Things come to a head in tonight's show when the pair become involved in a struggle and Yasmeen lashes out with a wine bottle.

"I wouldn't call it retaliation - it started two years ago, in Geoff's first introduction we all loved him because he seems great," King told This Morning.

"It has been a slow drip and gradual escalation of abuse so it's not an attack, she's defending herself, it's an instinct, she's a cornered animal in the scenes we are going to see tonight.

"All she does is defend herself, she doesn't know in that instant what it is actually happening to her. All Yasmeen is thinking of in the scene is survival."

Coronation Street airs tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
