Rovers Return 'to be closed when Coronation Street returns'

Coronation Street's iconic pub the Rovers Return is likely to be closed when the soap starts filming new episodes.

Coronation Street boozer the Rovers Return is likely to be closed when the soap starts filming new episodes again.

The long-running soap stopped filming last month after the UK government imposed a lockdown due to the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease.

Episodes currently airing were filmed before the severity of the pandemic became clear, meaning that there have been no references to COVID-19 or social distancing, but that is likely to change when filming resumes.

"Producers think it would be slightly weird not to at least acknowledge the huge disruption the crisis has caused," a source told The Sun.

"How much it is acknowledged will all depend on when cast and crew are allowed back on set. They're hopeful they will be able to start work on new episodes soon, but one way of nodding to the lockdown is shutting the Rovers.

"They want to make sure they reflect the reality of the world watching."

As it stands the soap is likely to drop off air at some point in July when all previously-recorded episodes have been broadcast.
