Coronation Street's Des Barnes 'wanted by police in Ghana'

Former Coronation Street actor Philip Middlemiss is reportedly wanted for questioning by police in Ghana in connection with the sale of military aircraft.

Former Coronation Street actor Philip Middlemiss is reportedly a wanted man in Ghana over an alleged government bribery plot.

The 56-year-old played womaniser Des Barnes in the ITV soap for almost nine years and left the UK for Ghana in 1998 when his character was killed off.

According to The Times, Middlemiss is one of four people wanted by police for questioning over the sale of military aircraft to the Ghanian government.

The country's purchase of three Airbus C-295 planes for £50 million between 2009 and 2015 has been called into question, with allegations that the deal was facilitated through bribes.

Middlemiss, who declared himself bankrupt in 2012 and is now back living in Manchester, has been accused of working for Airbus as a project manager in Africa.
