Complaints over Black Lives Matter dance on BGT top 7,500

More than 7,500 viewers have now complained to TV regulator Ofcom about last weekend's Britain's Got Talent, which featured a Black Lives Matter-inspired routine.

TV regulator Ofcom has confirmed that more than 7,500 complaints have now been received about last weekend's episode of Britain's Got Talent.

The first of this year's semi-finals featured former winners Diversity performing a routine themed around the Black Lives Matter movement and George Floyd's death - and at one point troupe leader Ashley Banjo lay on the floor as a white policeman knelt on his neck.

The performance received mixed feedback on Twitter, with many praising the group for powerfully tackling the issue, while others complained that the entertainment programme had become politicised.

Earlier this week it emerged that 1,121 viewers had lodged official complaints with Ofcom and according to the Daily Mail, that number has now swelled to 7,581.

Several members of Diversity have taken to social media to dismiss the criticism, with Perri Kiely telling one troll to "bin yourself".
