Recap: Big Brother Australia episode two - Breaking The Ice

Read our recap of the second episode of Big Brother Australia as four more housemates join the group and another bites the dust.

The second episode of Big Brother Australia saw another four housemates introduced to the game and another one shown the door.

The housemates got an early night on day three after Laura's eviction but as the clock struck midnight, they were unaware that four new competitors were sneaking into the compound.

Sonia greeted the new arrivals - Chad Hurst, a 27-year-old model; Garth Saville, a 50-year-old recruitment director; Sarah McDougal, a 19-year-old student; and Sophie Budack, a 25-year-old gymnast - before BB set them a secret mission: to enter the house, find vacant beds and remain undetected until the morning in order to win a Sunday lunch for the group.

After a number of close calls, including Chad touching most of the sleeping housemates, the newbies eventually found their own hitherto-unseen bedroom, where they settled down for the night before making their grand entrance.

Most of the group was happy to welcome the fresh blood - but Daniel was less than impressed, confessing in the diary room: "It really took me off guard. For all we know they could have the power to kick one of us originals out... I don't trust these people as far as I can throw them."

Meanwhile, Kieran - almost evicted the night before - was left feeling more isolated as the originals focused on getting to know the newbies, while Allan's outspoken nature immediately painted him as a target in the eyes of Garth.

On day five, BB set the next nominations challenge: each housemate was presented with their own ice block with a flag frozen into the middle. The first to successfully retrieve their flag by only using their body - or what was attached to it - to warm the ice would be declared the winner.

After the two-hour mark passed, Daniel had the idea to urinate on his ice to speed up the process but suffered from an embarrassing case of stage fright. Nevertheless, he made contact with his flag at the same time as newcomer Garth and the first challenge's winner Talia, but it was Garth who emerged victorious and had to immediately nominate three people for the chop.

"I've only been in here two days, but I know for my game, there's one person I need to get out," he told BB.

Garth went on to pick Kieran for "playing too hard too soon", Angela for "giving up on things too easily" and Allan for "playing the game way too quickly, way too hard - he's trying to be everyone's best friend and it comes across a bit fake".

After the nominations were revealed to the group, Kieran was once again adamant that he would be voted out, while a cocksure Allan told BB: "I think the house will save me because it's Allan. Why would they get rid of me?"

Allan's confident attitude - and insistence that Kieran would be booted - was a cause for concern for Angela, although a pep talk from the newly-styled "Aunty Garth" helped to ease her fears that she would be voted out.

Kieran, meanwhile, embarked upon a campaign to stay, much to Allan's amusement from the sidelines. "I was just basking in the glory of someone else's downfall," he told BB. "If you think I'm two or three steps ahead of you, I'm already 10 ahead. I always think quicker than you, I always think faster than you. The Kieran ship has sunk to the bottom of the ocean."

Unbeknownst to Allan, however, Aunty Garth had launched an effort to evict him, confiding in the diary room: "Allan is trouble - he will turn this game around, he's like a hurricane. Allan is sneaky, he's very clever, he's dangerous. I'm going to do my darndest to persuade everyone that it should be him."

Eventually the housemates were called to the eviction room, where Angela broke down in tears at the thought of Kieran leaving, while Allan claimed that he was "dumb as a doorknob" and shouldn't be perceived as a threat.

The votes were counted and Sonia delivered the verdict - with 12 votes against him, Allan became the second person to be evicted, with Angela receiving one vote and Kieran one vote.

Having left the house, a visibly-shocked Allan declared: "What? I am salty af! That's like a landslide. How the hell is Kieran still in the house? I don't know what he said and what he put in the drinks. This is absolute abuse. Allan coming out second?!"

Big Brother continues Wednesday on Seven as the final four contestants enter the house and another is evicted.
