Phil Taylor, James Wade dumped out of World Grand Prix

Phil Taylor and James Wade, who have won 13 of the 17 World Grand Prix tournaments between them, both lose during the opening round in Dublin.

Phil Taylor is out of the World Grand Prix after suffering a surprise defeat to Vincent van der Voort.

The 11-time champion missed the bull for a nine-dart leg during the opening set but he twice lost out in deciding legs to fall to a 2-0 loss.

James Wade, who triumphed in Dublin in 2007 and 2010, looked on course to beat Mensur Suljovic before the Austrian stormed back to record a 2-1 victory.

However, 2015 world champion Gary Anderson eased into the second round with a routine triumph over Scottish compatriot John Henderson, while Terry Jenkins held his nerve to come through 2-1 against former finalist Mervyn King.

Simon Whitlock progressed through to the last 16 with a comfortable 2-0 win against Andrew Gilding, as did Ian White over Jamie Caven, while Justin Pipe came from behind to see off the challenge of Steve Beaton.

In the final match of the night, Robert Thornton produces a high-scoring performance to get the better of Daryl Gurney.
