Michael Rogers clinches stage 16 of Tour de France

Australian Michael Rogers wins stage 16 of the Tour de France, his first triumph on the tour.

Australian Michael Rogers has won the 16th stage of the Tour de France.

It is the first time that the Team Tinkoff-Saxo rider has clinched a stage victory on the tour.

Following a gruelling cycle through the Pyrenees, the 34-year-old opened up an eight-second lead with 2km to go before sealing his maiden triumph.

Europcar's Thomas Voeckler finished in second place, while Team Sky's Vassil Kiriyenka came in third.

Despite crossing the line nine minutes behind Rogers, Vincenzo Nibali of Astana retains the yellow jersey.
