Belkin rider Lars Boom has won an eventful fifth stage of the Tour de France.

The 152.2km race from Ypres to Arenberg Porte du Hainaut got off to a dramatic start as defending champion Chris Froome fell twice.

The second tumble proved too much for the Team Sky rider as it was confirmed shortly after that he had pulled out of the Tour.

In treacherous conditions, Dutchman Boom eventually finished ahead of the Astana duo of Jakob Fuglsang and Vincenzo Nibali, who remains in the yellow jersey.

Cannondale's Peter Sagan secured a fourth-place finish, while Fabian Cancellara of Trek came in fifth.
