Team Sky rider Salvatore Puccio has captured the pink jersey at the Giro d'Italia following an spectacular team time trial performance on the island of Ischia.
Sir Dave Brailsford's team finished nine seconds quicker than their nearest competitors, Movistar and 14 ahead of Astana, led by Sir Bradley Wiggins's tour rival Vincenzo Nibali.
The Tour de France champion moved himself up to second overall on a dominant day for the British outfit.
"It's a surprise to have taken the pink jersey but I'm very happy," Puccio, 23, told reporters. "I'm riding my first Grand Tour and have to thank the team for this special moment.
"It will be great to wear the leader's jersey for a few days, I will ride up front and see what happens."
Stage three takes place from Sorrento to Marina di Ascea today.
