Vincenzo Nibali has extended his lead at the top of the Giro d'Italia table by winning stage 18 of the race.

The 28-year-old managed to complete the 20.6km individual time trial before his competitors, but the overall standings in the top three remain the same.

The Italian's victory on the mountainous course means that he has stretched his lead over Cadel Evans to four minutes.

Nibali won the time trial by 58 seconds.
