Michael Hutchinson: Racing again feels "slightly odd"

Northern Ireland cyclist Michael Hutchinson admits that it feels "slightly odd" to be preparing for a race after spending most of the season working as a reporter.

Northern Ireland cyclist Michael Hutchinson has admitted that it feels "slightly odd" to be preparing for a time trial at the Commonwealth Games.

The 39-year-old has finished fourth in the event at the last two Games, and has won the Irish National Time Trials Championships for the last three years, but spends most of his time reporting on the sport rather than competing in it.

He wrote on Twitter: "Going from being journalist at the London Olympics, the Giro and the Tour to being competitor again in Glasgow is a slightly odd feeling. It's like I've retired back to front or something.

"TT course last km includes a bend on a section of paving slabs. It's a TTer trap. If it rains, we're all going to end up in one big heap.

"I'm off 4th from end at 14.25. 'Warning: green and white bollard on the course."

Scotland's David Millar is the defending champion at the individual time trial.
