Movistar's Nairo Quintana: 'Giro d'Italia title was no fluke'

Nairo Quintana is out to prove that his victory at this year's Giro d'Italia was 'no fluke' as he gears up for the Vuelta a Espana.

Colombian rider Nairo Quintana is targeting success at this month's Vuelta a Espana as he aims to prove that his Giro d'Italia title was no fluke.

Quintana, 24, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of cycling since joining Spanish team Movistar in 2012.

"It wasn't difficult to get to the level of a professional, but it was difficult to stay at that level," Quintana told Biciciclismo.

"Now I am on a different level and the truth is it isn't easy either, it has its complications, but I have got here and now I will try to show that it wasn't a fluke.

"Surely are many more years to win a Tour de France. And I would like to return to the Giro, a race that I loved. The truth is that I like all races."

The Vuelta a Espana begins on August 23 with a 12.6km team time trial in Jerez de la Frontera.
