Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins will compete in the Vuelta a Espana, marking his first event since breaking his collarbone in a high-speed collision earlier this year.
The 31-year-old, who was forced to miss last month’s Tour de France due to the injury, has said that he will try to do his supporters “proud”.
"I want to produce a strong performance for all those people who have supported me since my crash,” BBC Sport quotes Wiggins as saying.
"The Vuelta is a race I haven't ridden before so it will be exciting to take part in. The level of encouragement I've received has been overwhelming and I'd like to do everyone proud.
“I have a great team here to support me and it should be a really exciting three weeks of racing."
The three-time Olympic gold medallist will compete in the Vuelta tournament ahead of the World Championships in Copenhagen this September.
