Netherlands rider Ellen van Dijk finishes 37 seconds clear of the field to win gold in the women's individual time trial at the European Games.

Ellen van Dijk has secured gold for the Netherlands in the women's individual time trial at the European Games.

The four-time world champion was a strong favourite to top the standings in Baku, and she did so with ease as she blew away the rest of the field.

The 28-year-old finished 37 seconds above Ukraine's Ganna Solovei, while Van Dijk's Dutch compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten took the bronze.

Van Dijk's win secured the first gold medal of the Games for the Netherlands, while third place for Van Vleuten takes their overall medal total to five.
