Andy Tennant: 'Odds in track cycling final are against me'

Team England cyclist Andy Tennant plays down his prospects ahead of this evening's Commonwealth Games track cycling men's final.

Team England cyclist Andy Tennant has played down his prospects for this evening's Commonwealth Games track cycling men's final, claiming that the odds are stacked against him.

A composed race in the qualifier saw the 27-year-old from Wolverhampton pick up five points to qualify for the final in seventh.

Tennant told reporters after the race: "We didn't know how good the field was but it turned out to be an easy race, really.

"It is going to be a difficult race tonight. I'm a lone ranger, shall we say, and all the others have got a couple of teammates.

"There are three Australians, three Kiwis and three Welsh so I think it's against me. The numbers game is definitely not in my favour."

Tennant finished 10th in the track cycling competition at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne eight years ago.
