Minister for Sport Helen Grant has claimed that Nicola Adams, Laura Trott and Ellie Simmonds can inspire more women to begin competing in sport.
Cyclist Trott collected gold in the women's point race, while Adams is currently bidding to add Commonwealth boxing gold to her Olympic title, and Grant believes that the pair, along with Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds, are great role models for women.
"We have a lot of work to do but we are doing it," Grant told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour. "Laura Trott, Nicola Adams and Ellie Simmonds are the role models who can make that change happen.
"Women and girls will see other women performing and think 'I want to have a go'. There is a debate about women's sport now and they are becoming stars."
Simmonds is not competing at the Games as her events are not on the programme.
