Jason Kenny: 'Commonwealth Games a stepping stone for Rio Olympics'

Team England cyclist Jason Kenny is looking to use his silver medal at the Commonwealth Games as a springboard to success at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Team England cyclist Jason Kenny has admitted that the Commonwealth Games are a stepping stone for his team ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The three-time Olympic gold medallist picked up his first piece of silverware at the Commonwealths this evening with a second-place finish in the team sprint at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Kenny expressed his joy at having picked up a silver and stressed the importance of such meetings, which are few and far between before the Games in 2016.

"Yeah, hopefully," he told Sports Mole when asked whether they could use the Commonwealths as a springboard to Rio.

"There aren't many rides between now and Rio. I think there are about eight team sprints at international competitions so we need to start getting them right, getting together and making them count. I think we've done a good job today."

Kenny is also still involved in the men's individual sprint event, although he only qualified via the first-round repechage.
