Alex Edmondson: 'We're heading in the right direction'

Australian cyclist Alex Edmondson tells Sports Mole that the team are heading in the right direction for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Australian cyclist Alex Edmondson has expressed his belief that the team are heading in the right direction for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Australia have been in superb form on the track at the Commonwealth Games this summer, topping the cycling medal table following the opening two days of action at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Edmondson, who has one gold and one silver to his name already, believes that their form is promising in the build-up to the Olympic Games in two years' time.

"I think we're starting to show footsteps in the right way towards Rio. We've been trying pretty hard and we knew we had to tie up this one," the 20-year-old told Sports Mole.

"The Commonwealth Games is a big stepping stone between here and Rio, and I think we've shown here with the medals we've won and the performances we've put down that we're heading the right way. It's looking very promising for Rio. Just bring on the next two days, hopefully it keeps going."

Edmondson won a gold in the team pursuit final yesterday before finishing second in the individual event this evening.
