Former West Indies batsman Sir Vivian Richards backs Shivnarine Chanderpaul to continue at number five in the batting order.

Sir Vivian Richards has claimed that Shivnarine Chanderpaul should not be moved up the West Indies batting order for the third Test against England.

Chanderpaul has averaged 78.33 in the first two matches and Richards believes that he should not be promoted as long as he continues his good form at number five.

Richards told Cricket AM: "When you have a guy who comes in when he does at present and he does well, why change him? If he contributes to you where he is at present why move him?

"I've always felt that is the case - it's like horses for courses. If that's the area that he appreciates and enjoys batting, why not continue?"

The third Test begins on Thursday at Edgbaston.
