South Africa lose Faf du Plessis before tea

South Africa reach tea at 145-3 on day one of the second Test against Australia at Port Elizabeth.

South Africa have reached tea on the first day of the second Test against Australia at Port Elizabeth for the loss of just one further wicket.

Resuming after lunch on 64-2, South Africa steadied their innings with Dean Elgar and Faf du Plessis continuing their steady, if slow, progress in difficult conditions.

Both batsmen, who had come together at 11-2, scored at regular intervals and it was Du Plessis who struck his 50 first with a fine pull shot to the rope for four.

Elgar then joined his teammate with a half-century of his own, although his shot to reach it was a little more streaky as it flew through the slip area for four.

Du Plessis then edged the ball to short leg and was dismissed for 55, while Elgar (61*) and new man in AB de Villiers (11*) reached tea at 145-3.
