South Africa captain Graeme Smith has won the toss and has decided to bat first against Australia in the third Test in Perth.

Dean Elgar, Robin Peterson and Vernon Philander have been included in the visitors' team in place of Imran Tahir, Jacques Rudolph and Rory Kleinveldt.

Vice-captain and all-rounder Shane Watson has returned for Australia after recovering from an injury, while Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson are also back.

John Hastings will make his debut for Australia in a contest that will be Ricky Ponting's last following his retirement announcement.

The first two matches of this three-match Test series ended in draws.
