The Hobart Hurricanes crushed previously unbeaten Northern Districts by 86 runs in this evening's Champions League Twenty20 Group B match in Raipur.
Kiwi side Northern Districts, who were on a winning streak from qualifying and claimed victory in their first game of the tournament, won the toss and chose to field.
They were only able to take three wickets in the Hurricanes' innings as Aiden Blizzard (62 runs off 43 balls) and Shoaib Malik (45 off 22) powered the Australian Hurricanes to 178-3 after a slow start. Tim Paine also contributed 43 off 34.
In reply, Districts openers Anton Devcich (2) and Kane Williamson (3) were both gone early before number-three Daniel Flynn went for a golden duck off the bowling of Ben Hilfenhaus.
Scott Styris (37 off 27) and Tim Southee (21 off 12) were the only men to get into double figures as the Hurricanes tore through their opponents and bowled them out for 92 in the 17th over.
Recent Big Bash League finalists Hobart now have a record of two wins and a loss from their three games and still harbour hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
