Hobart Hurricanes beat Sydney Thunder by five wickets in rain-affected clash

Hobart Hurricanes snatch a five-wicket victory over Sydney Thunder after rain restricted the Big Bash game to 17 overs.

Hurricane Hobarts have secured a five-wicket victory over Sydney Thunder in a rain-affected clash in the Big Bash League.

Thunder had a poor start when Jason Roy was the first to fall after hitting just four runs, but his teammates struggled to pick up the pace as opener Jacques Kallis (5) was sent packing shortly afterwards.

The team's woes continued when Michael Hussey (9) appeared to pick up an injury and only two batsmen during the innings hit double figures - Mark Cosgrove (22) and Daniel Hughes (26).

Jake Reed starred for the Hurricanes on the field by snatching four wickets, but a rain delay forced umpires to restrict the game to 17 overs as Thunder ended the innings on 77-7.

The Hurricanes had a revised 82-run target to win the match and they managed to reach 30 before Ben Dunk (22) was sent back to the pavilion from Gurinder Sandhu's delivery.

Jonathan Wells failed to contribute as he was bowled out for a duck by Pat Cummins, but Michael Hill and Shoaib Malik added 24 and 18 runs respectively as the Hurricanes eventually won the game with 20 balls remaining.
