The Cape Cobras needed a dramatic super over to overcome Barbados Tridents in a thrilling Champions League Twenty20 clash this afternoon.
Barbados were first out to bat but suffered an early setback when Shane Dowrich was caught by Dane Vilas off the bowling of Charl Langeveldt with just one run on the board.
Raymon Reifer soon followed before Dilshan Munaweera and Jonathan Carter stabilised the innings with a quickfire partnership of 74 runs off 34 deliveries.
Munaweera was eventually dismissed eight runs short of his half-century before James Franklin and Jeevan Mendis quickly followed for three and 10 respectively.
Jason Holder and Ashley Nurse were both then dismissed for ducks as Carter began to run out of partners, with Akeal Hosein (6) providing the most resistance as the tail collapsed.
Carter ended the innings not out with 111 runs to his name, saving his side from a measly total as only two other players reached double figures.
Hashim Amla was sent out to open the batting for Cape Cobras, and it proved to be a wise decision as he built an early 56-run partnership with Richard Levi to kick off his side's run-chase.
Levi was eventually dismissed for 39, but Omphile Ramela picked up where he left off to build a partnership of 46 with the free-scoring Amla.
Ramela was replaced by Vilas at the crease having contributed 14 runs, while Amla was then finally dismissed having made 59 off 42 deliveries.
Robin Peterson was the next to go with Cape Cobras 31 runs short of the target, while Vilas followed two balls later without being able to add to the score.
The match came down to the final ball, with Cape Cobras needing three runs to win, but Sybrand Engelbrecht could only manage two to send it to a super over.
The Cobras duo of Levi and Vilas managed just one boundary and 11 runs in their super over, but that proved to be enough as Engelbrecht took a wicket and limited Barbados to 10 runs in a thrilling finale.
