Kings XI Punjab edge out Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League

Kings XI Punjab make it two wins out of two in the IPL with a seven-wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals.

Kings XI Punjab have made it two wins out of two in the Indian Premier League with a seven-wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals.

The Royals were put into bat first and made 191-5 from their 20 overs before the Kings XI reached their required target for the loss of three wickets and with around one over remaining.

The dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane (13) and Abhishek Nayar (23) left the Royals on 54-2 after six overs before Shane Watson's knock of 50 gave a much-needed boost to their total.

Stuart Binny was sent back to the pavilion having made a disappointing 13 in the 15th over, but 52 from Sanju Samson and 27 not out from Steve Smith saw Rajasthan finish with a flourish out in the middle.

Akshar Patel, Mitchell Johnson, Parvinder Awana and Murali Karthik all took one wicket apiece for the Kings XI, while Rahane fell victim to a run out.

The early losses of Virender Sehwag (two) and Wriddhiman Saha (two) looked to have damaged the Kings XI's chances of a victory, only for Glenn Maxwell (89), Cheteshwar Pujara (40) and David Miller (51 not out) to see them over the line in style.

James Faulkner, Kane Williamson and Dhawal Kulkarni were among the wickets for the Royals.
