Graeme Swann has claimed that Andrew Strauss is the ideal choice to become the England and Wales Cricket Board's director of cricket.
Former England captain Strauss emerged as the favourite for the role last week as the ECB continues its search in a job which was created following the departure of managing director Paul Downton.
Geoffrey Boycott was among the people to voice his displeasure about the link, but Swann believes that his ex-teammate can make a positive impact.
"Strauss is a fantastic leader of men, he knows cricket inside out and is a born diplomat and politician," he told BBC Sport. "I can't think of anyone better for the role, whatever it is.
"Without seeing the job description, we've no idea the influence he will be able to have.
"But in my experience he is a great man to have in charge."
Michael Vaughan has confirmed that he will not be applying for the job.
