Will Smith has dismissed speculation that he is soon to be appointed the captain of Hampshire.
The 31-year-old, who has previously skippered Durham to success in the County Championship, joined the Royals earlier this year to bolster their batting options.
It has since been reported that he could replace Jimmy Adams as team captain, but the right-hander has insisted that no such agreement has been made.
"Jimmy is the captain and a huge reason as to why I moved here because I respect him as a man, a player and a captain," Smith told BBC Radio Solent.
"Jimmy has directed the club so well and if I can help in a small way then that will be what I want and desire but there has been no conversation with that respect."
Smith has also turned out for Bedfordshire and Nottinghamshire.
