Matt Henry: 'We made it too easy for England'

Matt Henry admits that New Zealand made it easy for England after reducing the hosts to 30-4 on the first morning at Lord's.

Matt Henry has claimed that New Zealand made it too easy for England to recover from a disappointing start to the first Test match at Lord's.

England slipped to 30-4 in the morning session before Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali all made vital contributions to lead the hosts to 354-7 at the close of play, and Henry believes that the Black Caps were guilty of taking the pressure off the middle order.

"We started very well and put the ball where we would have liked, but England fought back really well," the seamer, who took 3-93 on day one after being handed his first Test cap, told Sky Sports News.

"We're a bit disappointed in ourselves. We showed some great periods but we let them off the hook with the odd bad ball. Overall we stayed there with Boulty getting that wicket in the end.

"We started getting both sides of the wicket and started to leak runs with the left, right-hand combination. Going in at lunch it was good to reflect and we needed to focus, because we were making it too easy for them at that point."

New Zealand are waiting for an update on BJ Watling, who spent most of the day off the field after injuring his knee.
