India out of T20 World Cup despite victory over South Africa

India exit the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka despite recording a victory over South Africa.

India's two-run victory over South Africa this evening was not enough for them to advance through to the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup.

Having made 152 runs from their 20 overs, India went into the field knowing that they would have to dismiss South Africa for 121 runs or fewer if they were to reach the final four.

They started well when openers Hashim Amla (0) and Jacques Kallis (6) were removed early by Zaheer Khan and Yusuf Pathan respectively.

That resulted in Francois du Plessis coming to the crease and the right-hander made 65 runs from just 38 deliveries to help move the Proteas past 121.

However, when he was removed by Yuvraj Singh, his teammates were unable to reach their target of 153 to win the match.

India's failure to win through to the semi-finals has seen Pakistan progress in their place.
