Sri Lanka dig in against England on day three

Sri Lanka reach 214-4 at the end of day three of the second Test against England, giving them a second-innings lead of 106.

Sri Lanka have moved onto 214-4 at the end of day three of the second Test against England, giving them a second-innings lead of 106 at Headingley.

The tourists started the final session of the day nine runs behind on 99-2 following the dismissals of Kaushal Silva (13) and Dimuth Karunaratne (45).

The first wicket to fall after lunch was that of Kumar Sangakarra, who reached 55 before being bowled lbw by Moeen Ali.

Ali then claimed another victim just two balls later as Lahiru Thirimanne was sent back to the pavilion for a duck to leave the Sri Lankans on 176-4.

However, Mahela Jayawardene (55 not out) and Angelo Mathews (24 not out) dug in at the crease for the remainder of the session to leave the match finely poised heading into the penultimate day.
