Stuart Broad took seven wickets as England opened up a 1-0 lead in their two-match Test series against New Zealand at Lord's this afternoon.
Having set the touring Kiwis a victory target of 239 runs earlier today, Broad and the home side took control of the contest with an hour left to play before lunch.
The Nottinghamshire bowler claimed five wickets before the break, including that of the dangerous Kane Williamson (6) and Ross Taylor (0) and captain Brendon McCullum (8).
New Zealand returned with four wickets to spare, but Broad claimed one of those soon after when Tim Southee drilled a shot straight to Joe Root at deep square-leg.
James Anderson then got in on the act when BJ Watling sent his swinging delivery into the hands of Jonathan Trott, who got down low in the slips.
Broad's seventh arrived soon after when he removed Bruce Martin's middle stump, before Anderson sealed the 170-run victory as he took advantage of a mix-up between the two New Zealand batsmen to run out Neil Wagner, meaning that the visitors had been removed for just 68.
It meant that for only the second time in history, only two England bowlers were required to claim all 10 wickets.
The two nations will now meet again in Leeds on Friday.
