England thrashed by Sri Lanka

England are thrashed by 157 runs against Sri Lanka in the second ODI between the teams at Durham.

England have been thrashed by 157 runs against Sri Lanka in the second one-day international between the teams at Durham.

The Sri Lankans, who have levelled the five-match series at 1-1, hit 256-8 before England were bowled out for 99 with around 25 overs remaining.

Tillakaratne Dilshan top-scored for Sri Lanka with a knock of 88 off 101 balls, while Kumar Sangakkara (40), Angelo Mathews (30) and Ashan Priyanjan (43) also helped to put the tourists in control at the crease.

Harry Gurney starred with the ball for England as three late wickets saw him end with figures of 3-59. James Anderson claimed two wickets, with Chris Jordan and James Tredwell also taking one wicket apiece.

England's time at the crease started disastrously when Michael Carberry (six), Ian Bell (12), Joe Root (0) and Gary Ballance (five) were all dismissed to leave the hosts on 29-4.

Ravi Bopara was sent back to the pavilion soon after having made seven before Jos Buttler (four), Jordan (one) and Tredwell (four) saw England's bottom order collapse.

Eoin Morgan fought in vain to salvage some pride for the hosts with a gallant 40, but it was not enough to stop them slumping to a disappointing defeat.

Sachithra Senanayake took four wickets for Sri Lanka, while Lasith Malinga, Dinesh Chandimal, Nuwan Kulasekara and Mathews claimed the remaining wickets.
