Starting on 83-5, the hosts added 90 runs to their total before heading back to the pavilion ahead of the final session.

Root reached 31 before he was bowled by Nuwan Pradeep, while Prior was dismissed by Dhammika Prasad for 10 following a lengthy review.

Moeen Ali (56 not out) and Chris Jordan (9 not out) will resume at the crease when play continues.
