England have taken two Sri Lankan wickets to leave the tourists on 309-4 at tea on day three of the first Test at Lord's.
Starting the session on 212-2, Sri Lanka proved tough to budge at the crease thanks to the partnership of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.
Sangakkara, who began the day on 32, soon brought up his maiden Test century at Lord's before Jayawardene passed the half-century mark.
However, England made a significant breakthrough soon after when Jayawardene was bowled lbw by Stuart Broad for 55, leaving Sri Lanka on 277-3.
The hosts took another wicket 11 runs later as Lahiru Thirimanne was caught by Sam Robson off the bowling of James Anderson having made just two runs.
Despite some success for England, Sangakkara went on to finish the session on 121 not out, while Angelo Mathews will start after tea with 14 runs to his name.
