Ben Stokes to miss one-day internationals after Bristol arrest

The ECB reveals that England all-rounder Ben Stokes was arrested in Bristol on Monday morning after an incident in a bar.

The ECB has revealed that England all-rounder Ben Stokes was arrested in Bristol on Monday morning after an incident in a bar.

On Sunday, Stokes contributed 73 runs from 75 balls as England registered a 125-run victory over West Indies in the third one-day international between the two sides, but the Durham star will not feature in the final two fixtures of the series.

In the hours after the win, Stokes injured his hand in a bar and after being arrested without charge, the ECB has announced that the 26-year-old will play no further part in the series.

Batsman Alex Hales was also out with Stokes on Sunday evening, and the Nottinghamshire opener will also be absent from the remaining games as he helps police with their enquires.

A statement read: "Ben Stokes and Alex Hales will not be available for tomorrow's one-day international with West Indies at The Oval.

"Stokes was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning, 25 September, following an incident in Bristol. He was held overnight and released under investigation - without charge - late on Monday and will not join the team in London.

"Hales, who was with Stokes on Sunday night, did not train this morning and has returned voluntarily to Bristol today to help Police with their enquiries."

Both players will still hope to feature when the squad for The Ashes tour of Australia is announced on Wednesday.
