Former Surrey and England batsman Mark Ramprakash has revealed that he wanted to finish this season in the first team, but Surrey's decision not to play him forced him to retire.
The 42-year-old brought an end to his illustrious career at the start of July, but has admitted that he wanted to finish one more season at Surrey.
"I was looking to finish the season strongly," Ramprakash told Sky Sports News. "That was what I wanted to do.
"Unfortunately it didn't work out that way but I'm not going to quibble over a couple of months, I've had a long career and have been very lucky to stay pretty much injury free."
Ramprakash's career spanned some 25 years.
