England coach Andy Flower has confirmed that Kevin Pietersen will open the batting in the upcoming one-day international series with Pakistan.

Pietersen was given the role during the last World Cup, but a hernia injury cut short his run as an opening batsman to four matches.

However, Flower has revealed that the 31-year-old will take on the role once again.

"He is going to be opening the batting for us in this series, and that should be really exciting to watch," Flower told Sky Sports News.

"We started with him in that position in the World Cup, and unfortunately he got injured and had to go home early.

"But he showed glimpses of what he could do."

Pietersen averaged just 11 runs during the recent Test series against Pakistan.
