Nick Compton makes 58 on England return

Following his two-year Test exile, England's Nick Compton produces a knock of 58 runs in a warm-up match in South Africa.

Nick Compton marked his return to the England team by scoring 58 runs during today's tour match against a South African Invitation XI.

The 32-year-old, who was a surprise inclusion in the squad for the upcoming four-Test series against the Proteas, played the last of his nine Test matches in 2013.

However, he has done his hopes of earning a recall to the side for the Boxing Day Test no harm thanks to a half-century off 107 balls.

The Middlesex batsman was eventually dismissed eight runs later when he was trapped lbw by Thandolwethu Mnyaka.

England's James Taylor has also gone beyond 50, but openers Alastair Cook and Alex Hales could only score 10 runs between them.
