England batsman Eoin Morgan believes that the domestic Twenty20 game is falling behind rival competitions and does not fully prepare players for the international level of the format, despite England being ranked number one.

Morgan has played several seasons in India's IPL and claims that the Indian version and Australia's Big Bash are way ahead of England's competition.

In quotes picked up by Cricinfo, Morgan said: "I certainly think it's got to the stage where it's so far behind now that something needs to happen.

"It doesn't need to be exactly the same to either the IPL or Big Bash, it has to work for English cricket. Young players [are] coming through and if we had an infrastructure in place with, say, eight or nine teams and huge international stars playing [the competition would be stronger].

"The benefits [of revamping the system] would be massive and I would like to see change. It's the way forward to improve standards."

This season is the 10th anniversary of the English t20 tournament.
