Angus Fraser: 'Ian Bell's Test career not over'

Selector Angus Fraser refutes the suggestion that Ian Bell's Test career is over, despite the fact that he has been dropped for the tour of South Africa.

England selector Angus Fraser has insisted that Ian Bell could still force his way back into the Test squad.

Having been dropped for the upcoming tour of South Africa, there had been suggestions that 33-year-old Bell's international career was over.

However, Fraser has revealed that if Bell goes back to Warwickshire and scores runs, he will be considered for a recall.

"[Dropping Bell] was a very tough call because we are all aware of the potential ramifications but he has been given a good run and we feel other players deserve the chance now to establish their claims for an England place," he told talkSPORT.

"It is sad for Ian that he has been left out but he has said he is determined to come back and force his way back into the side and we hope he does that.

"If Bell goes back to Warwickshire, scores runs, and shows what he is capable of, there is every chance [he will return]. If Ian regains the form we know he has, there is no reason he couldn't come back."

Earlier today Bell conceded that he had been left "absolutely gutted" by his omission.
