England's one-day international against Ireland in Dublin is abandoned due to rain, with Ireland on 56-4.

England's one-day international against Ireland in Dublin has been abandoned due to rain.

The umpires stopped play just over three hours ago with Ireland on 56-4, and with play needing to resume by 5.37pm, the decision was made to call off the match.

The contest posed an interesting matchup due to Ireland's impressive form in the recent World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, but it was a poor start for the hosts today.

Paul Stirling was run out by Jonny Bairstow inside four overs, leaving the batsman with just two runs to his name, while the captain William Porterfield followed shortly afterwards when he was bowled out by Mark Wood having hit just seven off 27 balls.

Tim Bresnan and David Willey managed to get a wicket apiece by dismissing Niall O'Brien and Andy Balbirnie for 10 and five runs respectively.

Ed Joyce and Gary Wilson were unbeaten on 23 and three when play was stopped after 18 overs.
