England have set New Zealand a victory target of 468 runs in the second Test encounter between the two sides at Headingley this afternoon.
The home side returned after lunch on 249-3, but lost Jonathan Trott for 76 soon after the restart, without having added to their total.
That meant that the Yorkshire pairing of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow were at the crease and the duo made quickfire contributions before captain Alastair Cook called time on the innings.
Root scored 28 before he was caught by Martin Guptill, while Bairstow remained unbeaten on 26 alongside Matt Prior (4).
In their three previous innings during the series, the touring Kiwis have only managed to score 449 runs.
