Stuart Broad to undergo surgery on knee problem

Stuart Broad confirms that he will undergo surgery on his knee in the near future as he looks to finally win his battle with a patella tendonitis problem.

England bowler Stuart Broad has confirmed that he will undergo surgery on a long-standing knee injury in the near future.

The 28-year-old has been battling a patella tendonitis problem for over a year, and the operation will finally take place when he consults a Swedish surgeon after the fifth Test against India at The Oval, which begins next Friday.

"It has got to the stage where it needs to be done," Broad told reporters after taking 6-25 as England started the fourth Test in dominant fashion. "I should be fine for the World Cup.

"The timing is not confirmed. The man is flying over from Sweden at the end of the Oval Test to have a look.

"In the past 18 months I could have had an op at any stage, but it has got to the stage where it needs to be done."

Broad will be expected to have made a full recovery around three months after the operation.
