Stuart Broad gives backing to Matt Prior

Stuart Broad says that there is nobody better to keep wicket for England at Test level than Matt Prior.

Stuart Broad has insisted that Matt Prior is still the right man to keep wicket for England at Test level.

Fitness issues and a lack of form during the recent Ashes series had resulted in reports suggesting that Prior may miss out on a place in the squad for upcoming series with Sri Lanka.

However, the 31-year-old was included and Broad believes that the selectors have made the right decision.

"I don't think there is any doubt with the people who know anything about cricket that he is best keeper-batter for Test cricket in England. We've got some brilliant talents around, but [Prior] is only 31 and he's got a wealth of experience behind him and he's one of the most successful we've had," the bowler told the ECB's official website.

"The doubt was about his injury, but he seems to have pulled out really well. Hopefully we will see runs from him because he's got a great record against Sri Lanka and India."

The first Test between England and Sri Lanka will start on Thursday morning at Lord's.
