Stuart Broad has defended England's selection policy following comments he describes as "disrespectful" from Michael Vaughan.

Captain Alastair Cook, James Anderson, Graeme Swann, Ian Bell and Broad will all sit out the ODI series with Australia as England look to rest a number of key players ahead of this winter's Ashes series.

Former England skipper Vaughan claimed that fans deserve a partial refund due to the number of players missing the series but Broad was quick to dismiss those suggestions.

"I think [Vaughan's comments are] disrespectful to the side that's going to go out on the field," Broad told reporters.

"There are guys who have performed throughout the county season to get a chance at the international level.

"As an ODI team, we're building towards that 2015 World Cup where you need to have a big group of players going into it with experience of international caps."

England face Australia in the first of two Twenty20 matches tomorrow evening.
