Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott believes that the recent media attention has given Andrew Strauss no choice but to resign as captain of the national Test side.

Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott believes that Test captain Andrew Strauss has made the right decision if it is confirmed later today that the batsman has relinquished the skipper's role.

The 35-year-old is widely expected to resign as England Test captain today when the ECB launch a press conference at Lord's at midday.

"If his mind is scrambled and tired and he's had enough, he can't bat," Boycott told BBC Radio Five Live.

"You bat with your brain, and if your brain is tired with all the hassle and the media stuff and if it's come to that, then he's right to get out."

Many have suggested that Strauss's decision could be down to the recent controversy surrounding Kevin Pietersen, who has been pushed out of the national side following revelations that he sent 'derogatory' text messages regarding the likes of Strauss to members of the South Africa team.
