India coach Duncan Fletcher had defended his batsmen after another disappointing display against England.
His side posted a score of 224 all out on the first day of the third Test at Edgbaston.
"Our guys are finding it difficult at the moment to handle the swing and seam," he said. "They've practised, and there's not much more they can do.
"I've not seen three pitches... that have swung and seamed around as much as these have in three Tests."
The returning Virender Sehwag was out for a golden duck, while Sachin Tendulkar continued his poor run of form with a single run before being caught by Andrew Strauss in the slips.
It took a positive knock of 77 from captain MS Dhoni to drag his side back into contention.
England ended the day on 84-0 knowing that if they win the Test they will become the world's number one ranked Test side.
