Michael Vaughan: 'England right to open with Michael Carberry'

Michael Carberry's selection in England's latest tour match is a shrewd move, according to Michael Vaughan.

England's decision to pick Michael Carberry in their warm-up match against Australia A in Hobart is a wise move, according to former captain Michael Vaughan.

Carberry made an unbeaten 153 on the first day of the game on Wednesday and Vaughan backed his selection, suggesting that the Hampshire batsman's experience will prove ideal in the forthcoming series.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's quite a clever move by Andy Flower and Alastair Cook. They've looked at the No 6 position and decided that a young debutant is not the best idea.

"He's a fine player and I'm sure he will end up opening for England, but for this series, this is a good move from England. To throw Gary Ballance or Ben Stokes in there is a tall order at this stage of their careers."

Carberry's only Test cap to date came in Bangladesh in 2010.
