Lancashire bowler Simon Kerrigan has admitted that he did not expect to perform poorly when he was handed his Ashes opportunity.
The 24-year-old made his Test debut alongside Chris Woakes for the final Ashes Test between England and Australia last month.
Kerrigan bowled just eight overs, recording figures of 0-53 during his stint at The Oval in the fifth Test, which eventually ended in a draw.
"I'm my own biggest critic and I was really disappointed with how it went," Kerrigan told BBC Radio Lancashire. "You're expecting all the good things to happen and you're not really preparing yourself for something like that."
England clinched the Ashes 3-0, but will fly out to Australia for the return series later this year.
